FAQ.

Q: What kind of name is Q?

A: Q is short for Quoc, a Vietnamese name meaning Nation. My full name refers to a leader who rescues the nation. My family came to the U.S. as war refugees when I was a year old. My parents personified Perseverance: they arrived with no money, worked hard, learned English, got jobs completely different from their previous careers, and put all their kids through college. I learned the value of education, hard work, self-reliance, and humility through their excellent example.

Q: How did you go from a Physiology degree from UCLA to where you are now?

A: Growing up, I was always an artist. I would doodle and draw all over my school notes, which is actually quite entertaining to look at today. Aerospace engineer was my dream job as a kid, but the more I learned about the world, M.D. became my goal. Looking back, it was more of a calling to help others rather than medicine itself. I entered UCLA as a Biology major and transferred into Physiology to learn specifically about the human body. While at UCLA, I took a job with the police department escorting students safely from campus to their residences, accomodating my drive to serve. I quickly rose up the ranks and eventually managed the operation. During this time, my eyes were opened to law and law enforcement, leading me to take the LSAT for law school. Although scoring high, in my heart, I knew that law school still wasn't my road to take. With art and creativity still coursing through my veins, I struck out into the marketing field where I met and was mentored by Jeff Charney, who is currently the Chief Marketing Officer for Progressive Insurance. Combining my creative abilities with my science background, I excelled in creative management and organization in the professional world.

Q: What do you do in your free time?

A: I love the outdoors and the beauty that this nation has to offer. My goal is to visit every U.S. National Park, by road trip whenever possible. I also strongly believe in giving back to the community that has given me so much. I started volunteering my time as a member of the Sheriff disaster response team, and then as a Police Patrol Volunteer. I also donate my time and art to charities supporting the families of fallen service men and women.

Q: What are you best known for?

A: I am a legend at several Starbucks shops. I've probably sent a few baristas through college.

Q: Single or married?

A: Married! I proposed to my beautiful bride in our favorite city, San Francisco, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. I am excited to have  rapidly growing boy and girl toddlers. I'm a big kid at heart, and I can now visit the toy section and not feel guilty!
